The color development from exposure is cumulative and irreversible, this is especially important for individuals exposed to repeated diagnostic imaging or radiation exposure. The exposed radiation dose can be easily estimated by matching the color of the sensor with that of the adjacent color reference bars. Yes, It is my understanding that it is like the paper test strips used to check Ph. once the card has been exposed to the radiation then then it does not reset. It is important that your protect the card. I have read that some store it in the freezer frozen in a block of ice. This makes sense, water acts somewhat as a radiation shield.

There should be a date on the badge. They are good for about a year. if the colors show high reds you need to replace them as they have done their job.
